Microsoft released an update Tuesday for its Office 2007 package of word processing, e-mail and spreadsheet software that fixes security and performance flaws. The so-called Service Pack 1, which had been planned for early next year, will come ahead of schedule, Reed Shaffner, a product manager for Office, said. The update fixes the top causes of crashes in Office programs as well as addressing other customer complaints, he said. Microsoft released Office 2007 to large businesses in November 2006 and more broadly in January. Some large customers prefer to wait for the first service pack before adopting new Microsoft software.
