Health care standards are not immutable. Your version of current safety net compared to standards of 100 years ago would match up to the gold standard for that time.

Over time as science and technology is advanced in a much wealthier country our standards and definition of levels of care will change accordingly.

Your problem with the current debate on fixing health care is more complex than with most people. Even if the economy could support my version of a safety net, you would probably still object. You have other issues with respect to libertarian views on self interest versus selfishness.

Otherwise, we can discuss this on pure economic terms. I think, for most people, the solution is to fix health care without undermining our economic system. In that, there is a solution to the problem. There is probably no solution in your weltanschuuang.
