Tim, one can easily put together one's own 2TB TiVo using the cheaper TiVoHD model and open market 1TB drives for half that price assuming you don't mind opening the case. Also note that the newer TiVOs now have the added functionality of TiVoToGo (TiVo-to-PC), TiVoToComeBack (PC-to-TiVo), and Multi Room Viewing (TiVo-to-TiVo). The DirecTiVo is sort of suspended in time since no new development has been done on it for some time now (not due to TiVo, of course). But you are correct that the new TiVos are Cable Card only.
