When 'made in Japan' was everywhere, they were products manufactured in Japan by Japanese companies. They were cheaper than and often equal to or of better quality than those made in the USA.

Today we have US companies that are no longer manufacturing their own products. They are now just a brand name put on inferior products made by 'shops' in China, India and other countries that pay low wages, employ children and run sweat shops. If given the choice, I would rather pay $3 more for a Barbie made in the USA ... not that I would ever buy a Barbie ;-)

Free and fair trade has gone too far. The USA has become a 'service' economy and IMO no country can survive without a manufacturing base.
