[ Try and Bye ]

I posted a link to a Year 2000 COBOL Factory that is offering free conversion of 2,000 LOC. I thought that there was no need to explicitly state the obvious, but it appears that BonniesGuy missed it: This offer for free code conversion is not bringing in any customers.

Why not? Where are the y2k customers going? The customers are worried about the y2k vendors' credibility and are going with the large established brand name consulting houses. In response, the startup y2k vendors are forced to offer free samples, but it's not working. Little companies like Matridigm and Zitel are caught in bind: Without a stable full of happy customers they can't win the confidence of new customers. Potential customers are afraid of ZITL but feel comfortable following the crowd to the established y2k vendors.

The y2k industry is repeating the patterns we've seen with so many other fractionated industries coming of age. A few big players get bigger while the marginal players shrivel down and disappear. Bye Bye ZITL.
