Past and present are different,

Not in this context. You're so good at splitting hairs.

Yes, they are.

A liberal elitist feels that his or her fortunate circumstances, combined with a belief in the collective, entitles him or her to judge what is moral and charitable.

Excuse me? It sure seems to me that the "religious right elite" is much more likely to impose morals. Abortion is one example but just one of many.

As far as "charitable", making sure that families that work their ass off in this society have a living wage and health benefits is not "charity". And we may disagree, but I think making sure those that are extremely disadvantaged have a minimal existence is not charity... it's a responsibility of a very wealthy society.

So you worked your ass off for 35 years, paid your dues to society, and even was a member of a country club. Does that put you in a position to judge my character based on my political views?

Yeah, it does. But it's more your social views than 'political views'. The country does a lot better when a "high tide lifts all boats". If that takes a little higher taxes, I will certainly make that sacrifice because I want other people to benefit, and I think I will ultimately benefit. Every time I get the chance I vote for higher taxes for the schools... and I have no kids. Why?

Hence the "elitist."

I'll guarantee that anyone that knows me... the last thing they think of is "elitist".
