Had it once in Santa Fe many years ago. The closest comparison I can make is to grits, but that's not a real good match. Posole is basically tasteless on its own, but is used as a vehicle to carry other flavors. The same way you might flavor risotto, or beans for a chile. The Posole I had was very hot and spicy and I enjoyed it.
