Wrong. Liberalism is a great proud tradition. Looking back, it's clear we would have been much better off if RFK hadn't been murdered and had been president in 1968. The Vietnam War and Cold War both would have ended many years earlier. Ditto McGovern in 1972. If that had happened, Carter wouldn't have been hit with the Vietnam War debt stagflation crisis and we history would have been much kinder to the USA as a whole.

The roots of liberalism can be proud to be responsible for the following:

- Womens right to vote
- Civil rights
- Environmentalism
- The right to organize for workers rights
- Medicare and Social Security
- Fighting corruption and monopolism of the robber baron elite
- Ending the Vietnam War (finally)

By the 90's though liberalism had changed. Clinton the triangulating bi-partisan centrist transformed liberalism into centrist progressive movement. While ther are still people around who consider themselves old-style liberals, it's an out-dated term, just as the GOP rightwing really isn't conservative anymore, especially on economics, energy and foreign policy.
