I don't doubt people would try to raise chickens themselves. With a dozen large eggs approaching $2 a dozen, that's incentive. I grew up raising chickens. 100 chicks each spring. We sold eggs to the neighbors for 25 cents a dozen. Boy, did we eat a lot of chicken... and I still love it. I just don't try to cook it other than on the grill. I never fry it, but that's the way we always had it as a kid. I still occasionally fry giblets.
