skeeter,
I don't think you'll ever understand the point.
You and Warren may not like the fact that we aren't all blessed equally in terms of talents and/or living conditions, but that's the way it is. It's called life.
The idea should be for everyone to try to maximize the hand they are dealt and make their life the best they can given their gifts and the conditions they were born into.
It's not always about material things to begin with. Materially poor and other needy people can sometimes be richer in the ways that matter.
If some rich people choose to help others out financially in ways that "you and Warren" approve of, that's great.
However, if they choose to lead their life another way and make contributions in ways you don't approve of equally, it should not be your business, Warren's business, or the government's business to dictate values to them. Just because money is involved doesn't make it any less of a "values issue" than when other people try to dictate social values that the left tends not to approve of. If you want to change the world, IMO the correct approach is to lead by example, do good in the world, and encourage others to do the same. Using the tax code to encourage what YOU want or to confiscate wealth that way (even partial amounts) is a very bad idea.
IMO, you would understand that better if you had more of an appreciation for capitalism and freedom and focused more on all the things government destroys by using capital ineffectively, by spending money on things you personally hate, and by enriching the thieves. |
