The authors chose to not make the obvious connection that the failed SIVs being brought back onto the bank's balance sheets here at the same time the banks are saying they have no legal requirement to do so represent a smoking gun that the parties who would otherwise be left twisting in the SIV wind are "friendlies" -- mark my words, once all these "friendlies" put their crap back to the banks and thereby escape retribution, the banks will refuse to take back any more SIV paper and will then cry for help from the Federal Reserve -- it's plainly criminal, quite frankly, but this is what US finance has become
