More than you ever wanted to know about rapid diagnostic tests:

Most rapid diagnostic tests work by detecting protiens that your body makes to specially target a particular piece of particular invader. (These protiens are known as antibodies). These antibodies may be created to fight off an invader in one particular location of your body, but they (the antibodies) circulate in your blood. Thus, just because the test works with blood from your fingertip, it doesn't mean that there are any of the organisms in your blood or fingertips. Also, just so that you worry less about your head, H. Pylori destroys the stomache with its own acids (I've forgotten the exact mechanism), but unless your brain is producing acid, I wouldn't worry to much about brain damage ;)

PS The most famous antibody diagnostic tests were the early AIDS tests. The more precise, more modern, ones actually detect the virus itself, but are more expensive.
