I agree with most everything you said in your post, except the above.

The "net effect" depends on how big of a picture you are looking at. In a local time frame, deficit spending will indeed have a positive effect on the economy. In a local geographic or demographic area, government spending will indeed have a positive effect on those directly affected.

But with government spending, there is always a cost. Whether the cost is place on other taxpayers or on future taxpayers, the "net effect" is almost always negative unless the services provided by the government represent a net positive for society, such as sewer systems, interstate highways, etc. (Hence my old post: Message 24136167 )
