John Adams and Thomas Jefferson would be considered religious right themselves to leftwingers of today - just read the quotes I posted.

If your claim is correct, then the inverse is true as well...........religious righties are very much like John Adams and Jefferson. When you think about it that's pretty frightening. Adams and Jefferson were both slave owners. They were born in a time that barely accepted that the earth was round. It would be years before Americans would learn about evolution. Science was in its infancy. The Industrial Revolution was just getting started. There were no public school system.......instead there were charter like schools for the elite. Women were second class citizens who were expected to stay at home and cook and sew.

Yup. I think comparing the religious right to Jefferson and Adams is an apt comparison.
