The quotes are accurate. The founding fathers were just as scared of religious extremists like today's religious right as they were about Monarchists. And the main reason they allowed citizens to bear arms was if one of these groups, either the Bushie type elite or the religious wackos ever took over the government, then The People should be allowed to rise up with flintlock rifles and march on Washington and overthrow them. The far right has always been the #1 internal enemy of the USA except for a few brief periods where isolated leftwing wackos got violent. Almost all the physical threat to the US democracy has come from the far right, including Timothy McVeigh, Kent State, McCarthy, the Kennedy assassinations and Bush's attempt to be able to brand anyone he wants "terrorist" and take away all their rights.
