I have studied 1967-1969 Vietnam and all the real experts, including McNamara were stating at least privately that it was not only not working, but it was impossible to win due to massive corruption and flawed logic. But like Bush refusing to accept "losing" in Iraq, Nixon once he took over after RFK was murdered, didn't want to take blame for losing and repped the war profiteers so he kept it going for five years.

The problem in Vietnam was that we could win every single battle but still lose because our fundamental plan was deeply flawed and our allies were completely corrupt, and were even selling our arms to the VC. It's like trying to fill a bucket with a hole in it. SImilar to Iraq. It was their civil war and we really had no businss being there in the first place.
