Nixon won in 1968 because RFK was murdered. He took office at a point when insiders were buzzing about the Vietnam War being a lost cause and unwinnable. It's the main reason LBJ bowed out. He knew he had blown it. But instead of admitting that and sharing the bad news with the American People Nixon gave the war a whole new surge and kept it going for five years. Huge waste of human life and money. And all very corrupt and dishonest.
