With Medvedev becoming likely Putin's successor, I am a bit more optimistic on Russia's longer term democratic effort. He is not associated with the KGB. What happens next? We'll see. Organized crime in Russia has been the main obstacle, and Russia has yet to develop an economy that is not so oil-dependent. Foreign investment will flow as soon as Russia fights its organized crime. This could be a long term effort. ruvr.ru
