RFK was a kid back then. I told you, this was before McCarthy changed and took a hard turn to the far right. Once McCarthy did that the Kennedys were 100% against him. But he was originally an Irish Catholic family friend.

Again, the rightwing just keeps lying. They will distort any detail of history they can find to try and re-write history. The fact is McCarthy is the property of the rightwing and only they ever supported his ideas. And he was a fascist, an evil un-American man. He defined "communist" as basically anyone left of center who dissented against the military-industrial Cold War rightwing propaganda, and McCarthy was deeply dishonest in choosing his targets.

Most of the people McCarthy ruined were totally innocent including some of our greatest artists. McCArthy did the same thing they were doing in the Soviet Union, going to war against free speech and peace-loving people.

In fact I'm not sure he persecuted a single real spy, just liberal-minded people in the arts mainly.

In fact, looking back, the entire Cold War was largely a big fat lie. By both sides. It was always blown way out of proportion and was fueled by war profiteers and fear-mongers on both sides. We now know the Soviet nuclear arsenal was nowhere near as big as our government claimed, nor anywhere near as functional. And McCarthy just made things worse, much worse.

Eisenhower knew too. He saw through the whole big lie and wanted it stopped. As he left office Eisenhower warned us not of the Soviets but of the insidious power of our own war profiteers.

If JFK hadn't been killed the Cold War probably could have been ended fifteen years before it the Soviet Union finally collapsed, and the whole Vietnam War could have been avoided as well.
