don't hate us for our freedom, either. Rather, they hate us for how we use our freedom

With all respect to Mr. D'Souza, I have a problem with any and all "blowback" theories. We have too much sexual freedom? Maybe, but we are the ones to deal with that. It isn't any of their f-ing business. Does anyone hear about any US Marines holding a gun to any fundamentalist's head in order to force him to change his views about his daughters sexual rights? No. Bottom line - we don't bomb them when we disagree with their mores and customs - and we have the right to expect that they should refrain from bombing us.

Why did the terrorists do it? (the 9/11)

No need to go much further than the old fashioned quest for power. Radical islamism is their ideology, and their goal is to capture political power in their respective countries - presumably, so that they could make their countrymen into better Muslims. International terrorism is the means of shaking up the status quo, of triggering wars and conflicts -- it is easier to overthrow governments and grab power during times of unrest and confusion.
