Wrong. Romney stated that the FF's approved of a state religion. That was an outright lie. He used the word "God" was if "God" belong to rightwing Christians, and is even definable. Romney lso misrepresented Lincoln, who is quoted as saying that he was not a Christian at all.
The fact is that the original Pilgrims came to the US to escape religious persecution. So the Founding Fathers wanted to guarantee that no believers, including those who choose not to believe in anything, are every descriminated against. So no creed, including the largest sect can ever be a state religion nor even part of our government. And no laws can be passed based on any sect's beliefs.
In fact, the religious right in this country is guilty of persecuting others. Their crusades against anyone of a different creed than themselves are well-known. In fact they hate Mormons, Jews, Catholics, Methodists, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Unitarians, you name it, right up the line. They deny the need for science and sex education. They demonize sexual freedom. They believe the Bible literally, (which is deluded). They believe Christ supported getting rich, which he didn't. They believe Christ was against sex, abortion and gays, which he never said a word about. They believe Christ was for war, which he wasn't. They believe Christ was some kind of a divisive bigot, which he wasn't. They believe all kinds of lunacy which is very dangerous to our constitutional democracy if given official credence by our government of the GOP.
In fact, Pat Robertson's former righthand man writes in his tell-all book about Pat that Robertson's secret plan if he could win the White House was to rip up the Constitution. So that, my fellow Americans, is the biggest problem. Our Constitution is sacred in this country, the Bible is only sacred to those who choose to believe it. Therefore it is not rightwing Christians who need protection, it is our Constitution which needs protection from them and the Bushie industrial rich elitist monarchists too. No King George and no official religion. Both un-American and illegal. |
