I have a lot of respect for Dinesh D'Souza. I think he is a courageous man and a serious social thinker. However, when he says the following, he seems to offer explanations as to why Al Qaeda hates us:

Contrary to President Bush's view, they don't hate us for our freedom, either. Rather, they hate us for how we use our freedom. .... many see it as an assault on prevailing religious and traditional values. ... the traditional sensibilities of many of the world's people are violated.

I may not like what our radical Left is doing, but it doesn't give Al Qaeda the right to attack us. I may have reason to dislike my neighbour, but I am not going to blow up his house -- because that is not my decision to make. Whenever we take the direction of "understanding" Al Qaeda's "feelings" - with the implication that appropriate changes in our behavior may alleviate those feelings - imo, we are on the wrong path.

Btw, Freedom vs. the "use" of freedom is splitting hair. The bottom line is - they do hate us, and they always will, in part because this hatred serves their political strategies. If they can radicalize the Muslim masses around that hatred, they will be more likely to capture political power in their respective countries.
