I don't get the "bluffing" part either. I'm sure the Church was playing MT for all she was worth. But I also think MT condoned or endorsed that. After all, they were on the same team. I personally don't think either was a victim.
And maybe that's what I mean by political savvy. Mother Teresa wasn't gonna turn down a good photo op.
Saint Diana. Gawd. Until she went on the charity trip, she was just another Poor Little Rich Girl. I'll say that finding a cause in promoting charities was an excellent use of her innate people appeal. Of course, the press went one further when it found her to be the next Kennedy-style martyr to enshrine.

We worked different facets of the book review. I somehow just skated over theclose-minded judgmental part. I guess I saw it as a counterweight to a similar sense of judgment[ality] I've seen in the papers and newsweeklies. I get nervous around unqualified praise (or condemnation) of any one person, even as transparent a dogooder as MT. I sorta went for the Dissenting Opinion quality of the thing. We need Dissenting Opinions, even if the burden is on us todecide if they hold any water. I like finding folks who say: waitaminute. Every story has two sides.
Of course, then it's up to us to piece together the individual facts and counterfacts and decide which we will support, and in what proportion - until new facts come to light.
