Who knows, maybe. An earlier switch to alt energy might have created some significant business opportunities, and kept more US $'s in US investment.

Well that's not really sustaining the Clinton boom.

Well what you call the "Clinton Boom" was really the PC, cell phone and Internet build out. Since that had pretty much run it's course, it obviously couldn't be sustained.

But if you classify it broader as a "technology boom" then my guess is Gore would have done a better job of sustaining it. Bush is a status quo, big business, anti-science, anti-intellectual type of person. Gore might have (pure speculation, no way to know for sure) been better for alt energy, nanotech research, stem cell stuff... 8 years is a long time in techology, who knows what might have been accomplished?

Even so, such a transition would have been a lot more disruptive and difficult than what Al Gore could have been capable of handling, IMO. Too much political pressure to make it easy on the poor and middle class (e.g. Clinton's release of the Strategic Petroleum Reserves when gas hit a "sky high" price of $1.50/gallon).

I don't follow that argument at all. What so difficult to handle?

Not to mention pressure from the environmental zealots who will oppose transitional measures such as drilling for our own oil (ANWR) and going nuclear.

The environmental "zealots" no longer oppose nuke power. And ANWR is a fake issue... no real impact except political.
