Adams and Jefferson were both Unitarians and were among the most religiously liberal of the FF's. What separates them from Deists (besides the church going) is that they both viewed God as being a righteous judge who was actively interested in and active in human affairs.

The point is as you say.....Jefferson and Adams were "religiously liberal"......and also were two of the more prominent FF who made very clear their intentions about the role religion would play in the new gov't.
