"Sun just recently announecd new #1 TPC numbers (though only
for the UE6000), something like 52K TPC-C/sec for about $7mil
with 44 processors. SGI needs to get their butt in gear and
get a 64-cpu or 96-cpu number on the chart. There current entry
is only 25K TPC-C/sec for $3.5mil. SGI needs to sell their
"scalability" story here."

What makes you think SGI can even beat SUN?
- The R10k is slower than SUN's processor (heck, it's
slower than a Pentium Pro on commercial workloads).
- TPC-C can be clustered pretty much without limit. SUN
can always do another number with another node added.
- In fact, for TPC like workloads, the SMP model (or SSMP)
is a disadvantage when compared to a cluster.

So SGI has a disadvantaged architecture and slower cpus. How
will they beat SUN's TPC numbers again?
