on the monetary policy rendering ineffective, the same was true in the early 90s and late 80s with the Japanese economy dictating what happened here in terms of inflation etc. Only in the 90s when we took back the world economy did the fed dominate so completely but before that, there was a feeling that it didn't matter what the fed did and we were hostage to whatever. thats what it feels like now.
