Re: "pork barrel er...earmarks that he obtained for his state."

Pork barrel projects are the OLDEST of legislative tendencies --- going clear back to the Romans or the Greeks or earlier....

And, the ONLY thing that this latest Dem majority in the House has changed about the earmarking process (changed from the previous Congress' practices) is that now they are a bit more 'transparent'. The guy (Congressperson) who puts the earmark in has to have his name by the item, no more 'anonymous' earmarks... so at least the public has a slight chance of figuring out what's going on with their money. :-(

Re: "Politicians justify their irresponsibility because they know it keeps getting them elected. He is but one example of our elected officials digger the hole deeper..."

Yeah. That's a systemic failing of our system (as I see it).

Politicians get to DEFICIT SPEND NOW. (Indeed, they have a CLEAR INCENTIVE to SPEND ALL THEY CAN, 'cause the pork projects help them to win the next election.) But the way the political system is now there is no weight given to the effects of this current over-spending upon the FUTURE... upon FUTURE GENERATIONS of Americans and upon the future economy of the country.

That is why I have LONG been such a STRONG SUPPORTER of the Balanced Budget Amendment to our Constitution. Until the SYSTEM IS CHANGED at a fundamental level... we will likely NEVER SEE fiscal parsimony and an end to federal deficits.

Never. It will just go on as the trend lines suggest... until the system implodes in a collapse, possibly engendered by a hyper-inflationary spiral.

NOTHING will suffice to 'fix' the problem of too big and too voracious government until requirements for fiscal parsimony are put in our nation's highest law.

Re: "Add all that and you see how America's in debt way, way over our heads by more than $100 trillion. We've been living way beyond our means for too long."

Ain't that the case!
