It's true that many people suffer serious side effects from suddenly discontinuing antidepressants (usually not though, if they've only been on them for 3 weeks since the blood levels haven't risen very high, especially with short half-life meds). Effexor is especially bad in this respect. This, however, does not constitute clinical "addiction," something you should know if you are in this business.

What you say is true for benzodiazepines (e.g., valium) which are addictive.
