Romney's Plan to End Sanctuary Cities
Friday (12/14) at 10:48 AM

About 150 people listened and spoke with another visitor to Iowa making the presidential rounds in the final days before the caucuses.
One of those people, Amanda Gott of Muscatine, attended Mitt Romney's event on Thursday morning at the Hotel Muscatine with questions on her mind.

She asked the former Massachusetts governor about his plan to stop so-called "sanctuary" cities in the U.S. because, as a conservative, she was, "concerned about states' rights and how he would enforce not allowing sanctuary cities."

She said she was satisfied with Romney's answer. The presidential candidate said that the federal government would trump local and state laws. He further explained that, "if a city wants to be a sanctuary city, where they aren't going to tell people about violations of immigration law then I'm going to cut back federal funding to that city."

Gott, who recently moved to Muscatine from California, had plenty to say about immigration in her town. She said "I love immigrants" but that she was concerned about "so many people who get benefits" without being here legally.

Gott pointed to Muscatine's large number of factory jobs as a potential draw for undocumented workers.
