Ron Paul champions income tax freedom

GOP presidential contender Ron Paul championed income tax freedom and a Constitutional limited government on NBC’s Meet the Press this morning.

“We have to cut spending if you got rid of the income tax today.” Paul continued, “You’d have about as much revenue as you had ten years ago and the size of government wasn’t that bad 10 years ago.”

Paul said, “We could save 100s of billion dollars if you changed our foreign policy. We should not be the policeman of the world.” Paul advocated removing troops from Germany and Korea pointing out that more has been accomplished through peace with Vietnam than through war.

Paul also said the U.S. is not safer because of over extending the military overseas. Paul also warned that the U.S. can’t afford its current foreign policy and runs the risk of a dollar collapse.

Paul compared U.S. foreign policy with stepping in a snake pit and getting bit. By removing U.S. troops from the Middle East Paul said that the incentive and recruitment for foreign terrorists would decrease.

Ironically, Ron Paul who is the Republican fund raising frontrunner in the fourth quarter garnering donations from over 123,000 people was asked by Russert if he would run as an independent. Paul ruled it out 99.9 percent.

Russert was fair in the interview but was adversarial and seemed to try and twist Paul’s record even digging up quotes that were 20 years old. Russert attempted to twist Paul’s record regarding earmarks. Paul is known as a congressman that never voted for a tax increase.

Russert appeared so caught up in his attempts to try and ‘Catch’ Paul in a lie or hypocrisy of some sort even attempted to say that Paul’s support for an amendment to the Constitution eliminating birthright citizenship for the children of illegal aliens was somehow at odds with his being a supporter of the Constitution.

Constitutionalists often complain that legislators make laws that violate the Constitution rather than amending it as required by law. Russert appeared not to understand this.

Paul said that he would not allow the CIA to continue a policy of torture or overthrowing governments but would continue intelligence gathering activities. Paul also spoke against the Federal government’s war on drugs and warned against the dangers of the ‘Medical Industrial Complex’ and the ‘Military industrial Complex’.

Paul also defended civil liberties and warned against fascism and corporatism threatening individual freedom in the United States.

Corporate media attacks are likely to increase as Paul's popularity continues to sky rocket.
