I would say that the United States is somewhere in between Japan and Zimbabwe when it comes to responsible monetary management. It does not make much sense to compare the United States with either of these extremes. It's kind of hard to continue a rational discussion when confronted with a statement that paper money and gold are equally subject to fluctuations in value.
