The incident caused village elders to declare jihad against the American forces in the valley.

Somehow all this is hard to understand. Are those "genuine" elders? Or are they Al Qaeda's stooges? Is this the appreciation for all the sacrifices that those boys are making for them? What about the populace - do they want the Talibs back? Is the majority on the side of the Jihadists? Or, is the majority against them? And if so, how come all the names mentioned in the article are those of Americans, and not a single local name? What happened to the historic adversaries of the Talibs - the Northern Alliance? Did they change sides? This generally sympathetic article leaves the reader with a depressed feeling.
