Sounds like a Lynch-ian "de-worsification". AAPL's is driving to achieve focus and this wouldn't help. Think of it this way, if Jobs wasn't involved would the idea have occurred to you otherwise?

On the other hand, it's just what MSFT is doing, so ...

While such an arrangement would facilitate Jobs commitment, I don't think idea has any merit. (Some neat co-marketing ventures would serve as well.)
