Alan, the book is so revealing and dynamic that I have read it twice, I have also read many reviews on it and they seem to be split 50/50 pro/con depending on ones Global outlook and economic background...
Having also read Friedmans "The World is Flat" a few years ago and several other books on Global Economy, Global Order, Global whatever, I found "Elephant and Dragon" a 2007 copyright to be timely, well written and factual...
The author is not spelling out Gloom and Doom rather stating the facts and figures and then drawing a conclusion re what America can do to be a Global survivor.
In her opinion, our (USA) hopes are based in Technology and Innovation and we have to damm well get with the program post haste....
We presently rate 26th Globally in Math and 27th in Science, our academic accomplishments are nil...
WE are already 3rd in global Manufacturing with China being the new Global leader...
Americas present addiction to all things material for all ages of people indicate we are on a collision course with disaster(in the form of being a Have, Have Not nation unable to compete or survive in a global Marketplace) we have lost sight of the important things in life..
I am out everyday dealing with people of all ages, all education levels and income levels...I am seeing things firsthand that are pretty scary, especially in our schools K thru 12, college level is too bizarre to even comment on except in your very traditional academic Universities...
Remember the Computer, the Internet and Air Freight have changed the entire Global Landscape...
