Yes, I think all those "laws of conservation" are probably what cause the wackos to spin off in right field. If they had been named "Laws Assuring Perpetual Consumption" it is possible that the right would embrace science, and the left would assail it.

I think you are confusing the first with the second law. It's the second law which basically says there is no such thing as a perpetual machine.
