I think you are confusing the first with the second law. It's the second law which basically says there is no such thing as a perpetual machine.

I was talking about all laws of conservation. Think about momentum or angular momentum. The point is the word "conservation" is linked to environmentalism, and the right wingers see red so to speak when they think environmentalism, but they are quite happy to think of "growth", "consumption", etc. So hence the idea that some of the laws should have been renamed somehow to appeal to dimwitted people's ideologies.
