The point remains, the mechanism and equations governing heating in a greenhouse and in the earth's atmosphere are essentially the same, and they are radiation based, not convection based.

I think the point was that a real greenhouse loses heat by convection as well as radiation, the earth does not, except perhaps for the very small loss and gain of the atmosphere. By your definition all gases are greenhouse gases, but many do not asorb radiant heat or not well, but all gain and lose heat by convection and conduction.
