Tupi oil field could yield up to 1 million barrels a day
[ 2007-12-27 ]

Sao Paulo, Brazil, 27 Dec - The Tupi oil field in Brazil’s Santos Basin could produce a million barrels of oil a day, more than half the current total production of state-controlled energy company Petrobras, Gazeta Mercantil reported Wednesday.

The Brazilian business daily said initial studies on the field indicate a potential for light crude (more valuable on the international market) that ensures the economic viability of drilling. The field will also produce nearly 33 million cubic meters of natural gas daily.

Forecast oil production from Tupi is more than half the current output of Petrobras (1.9 million bpd) and the gas potential is the same as Brazil’s existing imports of this fuel from Bolivia.

To get the Santos Basin oilfield on-stream, Petrobras will have to boost expenditure on its exploration and production unit, added the Gazeta Mecantil article. (macauhub)
