Oil up on Bhutto Assassination

" LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Oil prices raced towards 97 usd per barrel as geopolitical jitters, stoked by the killing of Pakistan's opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, sparked buying.

New York's WTI benchmark hit a day high of 96.70 usd, its highest price in over a month, after the news.

Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was killed today in a suicide attack at a campaign rally, the interior ministry told AFP.

MF Global trader Kevin Blemkin said the news from Pakistan was an 'unnerving situation' and had increased the level of geopolitical jitters the market is considering."
