The whole point is that without either convection or conduction to the outside of the greenhouse the floor of the greenhouse gets warmer DUE TO RADIATION. The earth is the same. It cannot either lose heat to convection or conduction, just like a well designed greenhouse in a cold climate. And when you tinker with its cladding (atmosphere) in certain ways, it drives the equilibrium temperature up. God, you guys are dumbasses.

Greenhouses are built to grow plants in cold climates, so you use solar radiation in a structure designed to reduce convection and conduction losses as much as possible, so you don't pay for heating bills, but instead can heat it for free from the sun. The greenhouse and the earth both are warmed by the same radiation methods. The equations for analyzing them are the same.

It is not possible to heat the greenhouse by convection from a colder source than the greenhouse. But Watson is still trying.
