its fighting wars in far off countries because the incumbent president believes its good for the country. I happen to disagree with the current president's thinking and judgement.

First in the case of Iraq, you ignore the Congressional resolution authorizing the war.

Hardly. Congress was the enabler after they got coerced into going along with Bush's nonsense. Besides what does that matter......Congress was controlled by the GOP and its ruling had no impact on my position at the time.

And most of the Democrats in Congress voted for the authorization. Anyway the Congressional authorization means its not just the President beliefs that mattered.

I don't care how many Dems voted for it. I know what's right and what's wrong. The Dems and the nation got snookered.

Second, you must not think 911 was an attack on the US homeland because our troops involvement in Afghanistan is a direct response to that attack. Afghanistan was the base of the terror group which attacked us on 911.

Yes, it is....so why are we in Iraq?

Don't change the topic. You included Afghanistan in the far off countries we're wrongly fighting wars in.

I wasn't changing the subject. If the fighting in Afghanistan is in retaliation for 9/11, why are we in Iraq?

So was 911 an attack on the US homeland? If you admit it was, why are you opposed to us fighting back against that attack? You clearly think so, why won't you say so?

I did support the police action in Afghanistan in order to apprehend bin Laden and bring him to trial. I oppose the ongoing wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq. These wars could easily bankrupt the country while accomplishing little.

Can you guys not see the forest for the trees?

Of course, the military does much more. For example, one little thing would be - the Army Corps of Engineers (dating from 1802) maintains the US navigable water ways. Also did you know the internet began as a Defense Dept communications project?

I never said the military is a bad thing......there is a place for it in any society but not to the degree it dominates the American society.

In what way is it dominating American society?

To whit, its mostly what we discuss on this thread. What other country do you know has a Pentagon or any military headquarters that's as big? The military is big business in the US.
