I think you've got it backwards here. With regards to Galileo....he was persecuted for daring to suggest that Copernicus was correct i.e. that the earth is not the center of the universe. The mighty ESTABLISHMENT had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the realization that THEY were wrong.


That too. He hasn't got it backwards, he's just dealing with a slightly more complex (and slightly more realistic) model of history than the simple Galileo-vs-Church one you're using.

It all depends on the reliability of the model. Now where have I heard that before?

Dendrochronology and isotopic variations in ice cores are most commonly applied proxies for evaluating further back in time. The fact that global surface temperatures have warmed up alarmingly in the last 30 years as measured by thermometers is the cause for concern.....


Dendrochonology is one of those areas climatolgists fight about. Some do not trust tree rings as proxies, pointing out that they are more sensitive to moisture than heat, and give false readings in cool wet years. They prefer sendimentary proxies.

BTW global temperatures have NOT warmed up "alarmingly" unless you alarm very easily. the increase for the last 100 years is 0.8 degrees Celsius. The rise from 1900 to 1940 was actually sharper.
