The only reason corks are still used is that removing the cork has become such a part of the experience of enjoying fine wine that customers demand them.

plus the association with cheap swill <gg>

if you have ever opened a 'corked' (tainted) wine, the screw top suddenly doesn't look so bad...

alas, we are like pavlov's dogs....we hear the 'pop' of the cork and know that good things are sure to follow...it will probably take at least another generation to make the association with the 'crack' sound of the screw top <vbg>
