They ARE still expanding in the U.S.:

"Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, plans to add 25 million to 27 million square feet of new store space among its Wal-Mart Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets and Sam's Clubs, spokesman John Simley said. That translates into 220 new stores in the U.S. next year, including some that are relocations or expansions, he said."

For those interested in what WMT (and other "screw the people for a buck" companies) is/are up to, this is interesting:
goodjobsfirst.org

I also remember seeing a news bit recently(past week) on CNBC or Bloomberg about some money shark drooling about he was jv'ing with WMT about new stores in his country. Sorry...I don't recall the country....I was too busy being disgusted with his smiling wide-eyed hand-wringing drooling...and feeling sorry for all the individual businesses/families that would be destroyed.

Don't get me wrong...I'm all for capitalism...to a point.
I've made my comfortable "no boss" living trading stocks for the past 2 years...(after 30 years of having a boss and daily experiencing the capitalist management attitude of "you are worker-bee scum"). I love making money off stocks...I just hate reading about what the companies do to people to make me richer.

I also have a attitude problem right now since I just watched the movie Sicko...and I just got a letter from BCBS. They approved my application for health coverage(Yippee!), but after review, raised my premium over the original quoted offer by 50%(Boo!). The reason?...an operation I had 23 years ago. A simple operation with no complications and no problems since then. It's an obvious ripoff...but they included a rather blatantly threatening statement in the acceptance letter that if I questioned the premium increase, they would investigate me more in depth...as in..."mess with us and we will screw you".

Since I won't contest the premium increase, I know they'll save the screwing me for when I actually claim the benefits I've paid for.

God bless profits!...and to hell with any humans that get in the way!...

...errr...uhhh...what have I become?
