Oh, now I see your objection to (Throughout history, the scientific establishment often has had to be dragged kicking and screaming into paradigm change. It was true in Galileo's time)

You don't think it was the scientific establishment that had to be dragged kicking and screaming, but some other general "establishment," correct? You think that other scientists welcomed seeing the Ptolemaic conception trashed, correct?

Does this really accord with your view of human nature? Galileo's fellow scientists, with few exceptions, had spent their lifetime wedded to the geocentric conception that the earth is the center of the universe. Not only was that that their scientific opinion, but their religious belief as well. Nearly all of these astronomers had spent their lifetimes doing research to "prove" their theory through the "discovery" of epicycles piled upon epicycles to explain planetary motions.

Do you believe that all these other practitioners eagerly embraced a new "truth" that invalidated their life's work? (Not to mention the dissing of their religious beliefs).

If you think this is how science works -- then or now -- or how people work -- more power to you.

BTW, if you object to using the words "science" or "scientific" when referring to Galileo's age, it is common usage now to confer these terms on those practicing the scientific method.
