Russia, US nearing nuclear industry deal rbcnews.com
RBC, 29.12.2007, Moscow 17:53:23.The Russian Federal Atomic Energy Agency (Rosatom) is planning to sign bilateral agreements with the US in early 2008 for cooperation between Russian and US companies in the nuclear power industry, the Russian government said in a report on the results of 2007 and plans for 2008. The accords will, among other things, help lift discriminatory restrictions imposed against Russian uranium suppliers 15 years ago, the report states, citing Rosatom chief Sergei Kiriyenko.
As a result, Russia's direct supplies of uranium enrichment services, which are set to resume in 2011, are expected to meet 20 percent the US market's requirements by 2014.
The government report also states that Rosatom is planning to expand cooperation for building nuclear power plants in China and India in 2008, as well as determine its international integration strategy that year.
