Oh please...Don't you think the car magazine would have noticed racing slicks and spinning wheels? Trust me, the EV1 that I drove had loads of acceleration, I know, I used to drive a 1968 396ci Camaro with over 350 horsepower and this was nearly as fast. You just have to get used to not having the throaty roar of a combustion engine when you're beating the pants off of everyone on the street.

Torque is directly proportional to current, so you do have a point as to whether the fuel cell can provide the same instantaneous current as a set of lead acid batteries. Maybe someone out there may have that answer. In any case, I'm betting that a fuel cell is a lot cheaper than a car full of batteries. Maybe it can be used in parallel with other batteries to provide the instantaneous current.
