Hi Frank, the techniques you listed and others could help to improve the security situation but I am pessimistic that they will be used. In business setups there is more awareness but the majority of private Net users will remain inertial.

One example: an email has the trustworthiness of a postcard. Yet most email messages continue to be sent without encryption. Efficient encryption methods have been available for years but hardly anybody uses them. For six years I have had a PGP key.

With one exception I haven't had any correspondence partner whom I could have used it with. Well, people say that using PGP is a recipe for moving into the focus of law enforcement/intelligence services! Isn't it ironic that the "good citizens" don't care about privacy but the "bad guys" are considered to employ powerful privacy protection options for their purposes? In an ideal world it would be the other way round.
