It is the only explanation that fits the claim that government funds most medical research. R&D are tax deductible and thus elitists claim it is government funding.

That's a pretty complicated rationalization. Political hyperbole doesn't usually allow for the mental processes to come up with something like that. Occam's Razor would suggest that it's probably simply a matter of seeing what one believes.
